Five questions: what needs doing, how soon, how big it is, what’s around it, and whether the stump goes too. No email, no account.
Not an algorithm and not an auction. Someone reads it and sends it to the one company whose equipment and service area fit — one pro, not nine.
You deal with the tree service directly from there. The estimate is free and you’re never charged — the company pays us, and only when we send them real work.

Most removals land between $400 and $1,900, and the metro average sits near $700. Height drives it — a 20-footer runs a few hundred, an 80-foot oak over a roof runs into four figures. Anything a truck can’t reach adds 25–50%. Any site quoting you one number without seeing the tree is guessing.
For a normal job, most crews here are quoting within a few days and working within one to two weeks. Spring and post-storm weeks run longer. 42 of the 78 companies on this list answer emergency calls, so if a tree is down on the house right now, say so in the first question and it goes to one of those.
Ask for a certificate before anybody climbs. You want general liability and workers’ comp, and you want it sent from the insurer, not a photo of a card. If someone gets hurt in your yard working for an uninsured outfit, that can land on your homeowner’s policy.
Usually not unless you ask. Grinding is a different machine and often a separate trip, so it’s quoted separately — which is why the flow asks. Getting both on one visit is normally cheaper than booking it later.
On private property in most of Marion County, no — but trees in the right-of-way between the sidewalk and the street are the city’s, not yours. Some suburbs and most HOAs have their own rules. A local crew will know; that is part of what “local” buys you.
Nothing. Homeowners never pay ProNearYou. Tree services pay us when we send them a real job, which is also why the list is sorted by distance and not by who pays — a paid position would make the sorting a lie.
Having these five ready is usually the difference between a real number on the phone and a second trip out to look at it.
